Terra Madre Day – the Slow Food day of action and celebration – is celebrated annually on December 10th to honor those who produce our food and to promote a better future for food systems.
This year, celebrations worldwide take place from December 6th to 14th, ranging from big gatherings, food markets, and workshops, to communal meals, farm visits, and tastings. Find events near you on the digital map on the Terra Madre Day website, showcasing descriptions and details about each event. For local groups, this is also a great way to find inspiration for your upcoming events.

Slow Food Diplomas in Denmark, Communal Dinner in Sweden
In the Nordic countries, three Terra Madre Day events celebrate small-scale producers and local food.
Slow Food Danmark annually celebrates Terra Madre Day by awarding diplomas to three producers, venues, groups, or activists who share the Slow Food values of good, clean and fair food.
Nominations have been gathered throughout the autumn, and the award ceremony takes place at the Groent Market farmer’s market in Copenhagen on December 7th. After receiving the diplomas, the recipients share their work, visions, and challenges with the market visitors.
This is also an opportunity for those interested to meet Slow Food Danmark at the market and learn about Slow Food global and local projects, initiatives, and how to get involved.

Two Days of Celebration in Gävle & Uppsala
In Sweden, Slow Food Gästrikland & Uppsala celebrate Terra Madre Day on two occasions. On December 10th, members are invited to a dinner in Gävle exploring the versatile potato in a variety of dishes. This is also a moment when the group takes a stand against ultra-processed food and devotes the coming year to championing local food.
The following day, on December 11th, members and others interested gather to enjoy a traditional Swedish “julbord” (Christmas smorgasbord) at the KRAV-certified restaurant Johanna & Mat in Uppsala, where the chef Johanna Mellberg will share her food vision.
