Terra Madre Nordic 2026 in Norway Cancelled – Funding for the Event Currently Unavailable

Due to funding issues, we are very sorry to inform you that we have to cancel Terra Madre Nordic, which was scheduled to be held in Vesterålen, Norway, in April 2026.

“It is with great sadness that we must cancel Terra Madre Nordic in Norway. We have worked for the last one and a half years to put the funding together from local and regional funds, but didn’t succeed,” says Jannie Vestergaard, chairperson of Slow Food in the Nordic Countries.

Much work has been put into applying for funding to cover the planned two-day event, says Vestergaard, thanking those involved in the planning group for dedicating their time and effort to make the event possible, as well as the local partners and municipalities in Vesterålen for being supportive with infrastructure. Also, the Slow Food head quarters in Bra, Italy, has been of great help.

“Three important things need to be in place to succeed in organizing a travelling event as Terra Madre Nordic”, says Vestergaard.

“First of all, the local engagement and local, regional, or national funding are important. It is also very important to have an existing event to lean on to secure the local cooperation and to focus on the specific region. We had two of the three things in place, but didn’t succeed with the third one. Instead, we are looking towards the next Terra Madre Nordic, hopefully in 2027,” Vestergaard concludes her reflections.
